Features: Red fruits opening to show small orange seeds are a mild autumn feature; bright red autumn color; corky wings on stems add winter interest.
Culture: Full sun to partial shade; well-drained soils best; tolerates alkaline soil.
Cultivars:
  • 'Compactus' - Corky wings on the stems are less distinct, 10 feet tall
  • 'Rudy Haag' - 4-5 feet tall, autumn color is deep pink to red
  • 'Select' (Fireball)- More hardy than the species, bright red autumn color, 5-8 feet tall
  • 'Timber Creek' (Chicago Fire®)- Autumn color is bright red, produces quantities of bright orange fruit that persists, 8-10 feet tall
