Chronic Wasting Disease Found in Illinois Deer

With the announcement of the first case of Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) in an Illinois deer, hunters and others have been seeking information about this disease and safe practices for handling deer. CWD is a fatal neurological disease that affects elk, white-tailed deer, and mule deer. It is not known to affect livestock or humans. It was first diagnosed in Colorado in 1981 and has since been found in several states.
