Beyond Environmental Compliance: Stewardship As Good
Business
http://www.ers.usda.gov/Amberwaves/April04/Features/BeyondEnvironmental.htm
Both crop and animal production generate pollutants that enter
the air as well as surface and ground waters. Such pollution is
difficult to control, and programs designed to address agricultural
pollution have remained largely voluntary. However, growing evidence
suggests that good economic performance is compatible with good
environmental performance. Recent ERS analysis suggests that agricultural
producers can benefit economically by voluntarily adopting environmentally
beneficial practices.

for approximately 20 percent of U.S. supermarket sales. This data
set supplements similar data supplied by the Bureau of Labor Statistics

The market for mushrooms continues to grow due to interest in
their culinary, nutritional, and health benefits. The choice of
species to raise depends both on the growth media available and
on market considerations. A careful analysis of potential markets
must be the first step in deciding whether to raise mushrooms
to sell. Asian Agrifood Demand Trends and Outlook to 2010

and distribution continues unabated. This publication tracks the
changes, and analyses Australia's participation and opportunities
in the new Asian agrifood network. Volume III of the series looks
at the key drivers in the region: population growth, urbanization,
