Mammoths (scientific name Mammuthus) stood 10 to 12 feet tall, and weighed 6 to 8 tons as an adult. They were grazers of tundra and grasslands, and had teeth that looked like plates.
Mastodons (scientific name Mammut) were smaller, standing 8-10 feet tall and weighing 4 to 6 tons as an adult. They were browsers of forests and woodlands, and had cone-shaped teeth.
