Features

A good annual to include in the early spring and fall garden as they prefer cooler temperatures. Many good hybrids now available to help with the weather tolerance. Taller varieties good as cut flowers. Under some conditions and with light protection, they may be perennial.

Culture

Full sun to very light shade. Provide some shelter for the very hottest sun. Well drained, organic soils. Deadheading helps to prolong bloom.

Notes

Leave a few seed heads to allow the plant to self-sow and return next season. Good drainage is critical in growing dianthus so as to avoid root and stem problems.
