Incubation Troubleshooting

Short down on chicks, or eyes with down.

Probable Cause Suggested Corrective Measure
High temperature

Maintain proper temperature levels throughout incubating and hatching cycle.

Low humidity.

Maintain proper humidity levels throughout incubating and hatching cycle.

Excessive ventilation in hatcher at hatching time.

Reduce openings of hatcher ventilators. Do not restrict so far as to permit animal heat to build temperature above safe level.

Holding chicks in hatcher too long after hatch.

Remove as soon as chicks are fluffed and ready.
