Respect
How do we teach responsibility? This is a question parents ask themselves all the time. One of the steps in teaching children about responsibility is to set a good example. Young children learn how to act from watching their parents.
A second way to teach children to be responsible is to set guidelines for them. For example, make a large chart of everyday activities. Three o'clock is nap time, six o'clock is dinner and eight o'clock is bath time. Be sure to put the chart in a place where everyone can see it. This shows your child what is happening in the home and also they learn what is expected of them.
A third way to teach responsibility to children is to give them small and easy tasks, such as setting the table or feeding the family pet. When your children feel confident, they can begin to take responsibility for their actions. Empowerment is the most important key to a strong family. Giving children a sense of responsibility empowers them to create a better world.

Family Works in Action
Here are suggestions to help your child develop responsibility:
Develop and enjoy the bond of love between you and your kids.
Accept them as they are. Give them permission to be individuals.
Provide understanding, support, and nurturing.
Listen to their experiences, stories, and options.
Offer choices. (Would you rather have a birthday party at home or in the park this year?).
Remember
Responsibility lives in a home where everyone does their part.
