Ajuga reptans

Popular and useful groundcover for light to moderate shade. Grows 2–3 inches tall with blue flowers in early spring. Prefers rich, well-drained soils. Small and large-leaved varieties available with foliage color ranging from bronze to variegated. Space 8–12 inches apart. Perennial. Hardy in Zone 3.
