Join us for an inspiring day of empowerment and growth at the Youth Leadership Conference, where we celebrate resilience and the power of the next generation to overcome challenges and lead with strength.  Participants will be inspired, empowered, and equipped to lead through any adversity.

On Saturday, June 22 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. University of Illinois Extension is hosting a youth leadership conference at the District 1 Police Station located at 1045 W. State Street, Rockford, Illinois.

Gina Adams, University of Illinois Extension 4-H Youth Development Educator for the Rockford Metro area states, “Empowering young leaders to navigate adversity with resilience, is not just about overcoming challenges, but it is also about turning obstacles into opportunities and transforming setbacks into stepping stones toward success.”

This conference is open to all youth ages 11-18 in the surrounding area.  Participants will learn and engage with a variety of local adult and youth leaders in Winnebago County including Andrew Wright, who is the announcer for the Rockford Rage Roller Derby & Ipsen USA Marketing Content Specialist.  Juan Nogueda, Student Trustee at Rock Valley College and Jazmin Nathan, SGA President at Rock Valley College will present their personal journeys to leadership, offering unique perspectives and lessons.

Rockford’s youngest elected representative, Tamir Bell, Political Director for Rockford’s State Representative Maurice West will serve as the host for the day in addition to speaking. Committed to community service and fostering opportunities for all residents, Tamir embodies the spirit of leadership through action.

Bell states, "I am thrilled to host the youth leadership conference. Having the opportunity to pour into our next generation of leaders means the world to me, and I cannot wait to share what I have learned as a young leader with those aspiring young minds eager to engage in their communities and make them better places. Programs like 4-H provide the exposure needed for young people to learn and grow into who they are meant to be in this world. I am excited to be a part of such an awesome event."

The conference is sponsored by a generous memorial in honor of Tom Schingoethe. Tom served as the county director of the University of Illinois Extension Winnebago County office and when he became the Associate Director of the Northwest Region that would finish out his 40-year career with extension.

“The youth will hear great speakers who have overcome challenges, and they will have the opportunity to take part in panel discussions, skill-building activities, reflection & self-care, and networking.  They will be provided with valuable skills, inspiration, and support to thrive in the face of challenges.

Do not miss this opportunity to be a part of a transformative experience! Together, let us celebrate resilience and empower the leaders of tomorrow!” shares Adams.

Lunch will be served.  Register online or call 815-986-4357.
