Xanthasoma

Body

Another of the plants with the common name elephant ear, these foliage plants produce leaves so big that a small child can hide behind them. Huge shield-like leaves come in a variety of colors from bold chartreuse to green with violet stems. Xanthasoma does well in part shade to sun and needs a rich, moist soil for best growth. Keep the soil moist and fertilize weekly for unbelievably fast growth. Some can get up to 6-8 feet tall and as wide. Bring the plant in after a light frost and store the tubers as you would canna. Start the tubers indoors in the spring and set the plants out when the soil warms.
