Skewl Sites
http://www.skewlsites.com/cpp.htm
"Out on a Limb has nothing to do with trees. Nope! It's an interactive guide that teaches children strategies for getting along with others. Many teachers begin their classroom year by teaching students the routines and expectations for classroom behavior. Since the site is 'designed to teach youth how to better manage conflicts and challenges they face on a daily basis, it would be a very useful site to work through with the students right in September. The activities on the Out on a Limb website are designed primarily for third graders, but can be used to entertain and educate youth from the second and fourth grades as well.'
The site makes use of animated characters to teach three basic conflict resolution styles. The students learn that they can handle conflict in 'the loud style,' 'the soft style,' or the 'think and share' style. Examples of each style are given in a slide show type format. Students can read the short text on the screen or listen to the audio. The students also learn about communication skills, how to listen to others, and how individuals perceive things differently.
Students could page through the site in partners, but it might be more effective to display the site on a large screen and work through the examples together. The examples will promote lots of discussion. The home page of the site engages students immediately by asking questions like, 'Have you ever gotten so mad you stomped away?'
The Teacher's Guide has worksheets that will help students work through additional examples and apply their listening and communication skills. The worksheets can be used to assess how well students understand and can apply the concepts. If you're looking for an effective prompt to get students talking about feelings and how to handle them, this is it!""

"Go Out on a Limb and learn how to get along with others. Everyone gets mad once in a while, so it is important to understand how to handle anger effectively. Visit with Maria to find out how she dealt with a friend who called her stupid. Then talk with Cliff to learn what he did when he found out his brother wouldn't keep a secret. You'll discover how to deal with anger by thinking and sharing, and learn that perspective plus listening equals understanding."

"The University of Illinois Extension now brings us "Out on a Limb," a terrific website where younger children (in third grade or so) can learn about dealing with conflict. As they read along with the narrator, they can watch as the animated characters try different ways of reacting to problems with other children as well as with adults. This interactive website shows kids that while it may not be quick or easy, using a "think and share" negotiation process is the best way to resolve a problem. They also learn about feelings, the importance of listening, and about understanding another person's perspective. There is even an activity at the end where children can experiment with how different facial expressions portray different emotions."

This website is designed to help teach youth how to better manage conflicts and challenges they face on a daily basis.
The activities on the Out on a Limb website are designed primarily for third graders, but can be used to entertain and educate youth from the second and fourth grades as well.
Children learn in different ways. This program, with these exercises, takes this into account. Some children may find some activities fun and love to do them while others might not be able to do them.
The site is also available in Spanish.
