My Suburban Life - New interactive Web site brings weather into classrooms
"Children ages 5 to 8 have a new way to learn about the weather with the launch of a University of Illinois Extension Web site, “Riding the Winds with Kalani — A Weather Adventure.” This is the first of what will eventually be three sites focusing on weather for students in elementary through high school. The site takes its name from the Hawaiian word for sky, Kalani. In the student section, young users can go through each screen and read along or listen to a narrative. Animations are included to enhance the learning of weather processes. There is also a teacher's guide section to help educators use the site to meet Illinois Learning Standards. According to Scherer, the Web site also will be helpful for home schoolers and youth-service organizations. —Jessica Young, staff writer"
