Julie Muñoz-Nájar is an experienced Licensed Social Worker who thrives on working with multiple stakeholders focused in areas of nutrition, community planning, health care policy, and developmental disabilities. Julie's areas of expertise are related to infant and maternal mental health, building resilient families, and fostering cultural sensitivity in a variety of environments.
She is specialized in the field of autism with foci on family advocacy, medical care for youth, and network development. She has a passion for working on macro level policy issues and has worked on the federal Combating Autism Act of 2006 through HRSA and MCHB and on the UDSA's Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP). In her current role as the Program Director (EFNEP Educator), Julie directs the program in both Champaign and Vermilion counties of East Central Illinois where programming staff provide low-income parents and youth learning opportunities on ways to progress toward healthier eating, knowledge gains about nutrition, and adding active choices to their lifestyles.
Julie attained her master's degree in social work from the University of Illinois in Urbana, IL and her bachelor's degree in psychology from Illinois State University, Normal, IL. Julie also served in the Air National Guard from 2000-2007 and stays involved in women veteran issues, as a veteran herself.
She is also a member of the National Association of Social Workers (NASW), and enjoys volunteering in the community, traveling and spending time with her husband, son, family and friends.
