As a Nutrition and Wellness Educator, Mekenzie Lewis's primary
responsibility is to help individuals acquire the knowledge and skills
to improve and maintain their nutritional well-being. She delivers
educational programs with emphasis on food buying and preparation, healthy lifestyles, food safety, and
disease prevention.
Lewis has a bachelor of science degree in family and consumer
sciences - emphasis dietetics from Eastern Illinois University.
Also while at EIU, Mekenzie completed her master of science in dietetics, a program emphasizing nutriton education, granting her the additional title of "Nutrition Education Specialist." To obtain her MS, Mekenzie spent 9 months as a Dietetic Intern at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, IL where
she focused on medical nutrition therapy for the hospitalized population. Also to complete her masters program, Mekenzie authored her graduate thesis on research based in sports nutrition.
Lewis grew up in rural Moultrie County where she became acquainted
with Extension through her late mother, a soil conservationist for the USDA. He passion for health and wellness evolved from her deep seeded passion for sports and physical activity growing up, namely competitve swimming. She
currently resides in Tazewell County with her finace.
