Meghan McCleary is a Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (S.T.E.M.) Educator with the University of Illinois Extension. Meghan aims to encourage an interest in science and engineering throughout Cook County with a variety of programming including hands on demonstrations, fun, cost-effective activities for students, and professional development for teachers, parents, and mentors.

Meghan graduated from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign with a Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in Bioengineering focusing on therapeutics engineering, drug delivery systems, and biomaterials. During her time at the U of I, Meghan taught multiple undergraduate courses including a Cell and Tissue Engineering Laboratory in the Department of Bioengineering and a Biomaterials Laboratory in the Department of Materials Science. She was also an instructor for a variety of programs including Girls Adventures in Math, Engineering, and Science (G.A.M.E.S.) Camp, the Illini Summer Academies, and the Integrative Graduate Education and Research Traineeship (IGERT) BioNanotechnology Summer Institute.

Prior to joining Extension, Meghan worked for the Illinois Natural History Survey as a technical writer. She performed extensive data analysis and wrote numerous reports on human dimension factors in resource and wildlife management and environmental health for the Illinois Department of Natural Resources. Meghan’s interests include getting people excited about Science and Engineering(!), baking, reading, watching Chicago and U of I sports, traveling the world, and trying eclectic cuisines.

She is currently a member of the National Science Teachers Association and the American Association for the Advancement of Science.
