Dave Shiley provides leadership in local food systems and small farm programs in Coles, Cumberland, Douglas, Moultrie and Shelby counties. In his role as Extension Educator, Local Food Systems and Small Farms, he identifies strategies for educating the public about issues in local food systems and resource management on small acreage systems. Additionally, he works with local foods producers and clients considering alternative income production opportunities on small acreage and woodlands.

Dave began his career with the University of Illinois Extension in 1982 as the camp manager and program director at 4-H Memorial Camp near Monticello. From 1992 to 2011, he served as a Natural Resources Management Extension Educator at the Champaign Extension Center, providing natural resources management programming and support for 21 counties in east-centrall Illinois.

Dave received his bachelor of science and master of science degrees from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale, majoring in forestry - outdoor recreation resource management. He has also completed advanced coursework in natural resources and wildlife ecology at the University of Illinois.
