Judy Schmidt provides programming for University of Illinois Extension 4-H Youth Development Program at the East Peoria Center. She serves Fulton, Marshall/Putnam, Mason, Peoria, and Tazewell counties.

Schmidt earned a bachelor's degree in psychology from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign and a dual master's in social work and marriage and family therapy from University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. She is a licensed social worker in Illinois.

Her professional affiliations include: the National Association of Extension 4-H Agents, the Illinois Extension Professionals for Youth Education and the National Association of Social Workers.

Program Offerings

As an Extension Educator in Youth Development, Schmidt delivers educational programs for youth and families, as well as for teachers, volunteers and other professionals who interact with youth.

Multicultural Education

Schmidt provides training for youth and adults on understanding diversity and the similarities and differences of different cultures. Training topics include: understanding your own culture, learning about other cultures, cross-cultural communication, breaking down stereotypes and prejudices, and making change in your community.

Leadership Through Community Action - This program is designed for junior high students, teachers and community partners to work together on community issues. Throughout the program, youth participate in activities that build their skills in personal leadership, communication, problem solving and understanding how to work with others.

Healthy Relationships – In trying to help youth create healthier relationships with others, Schmidt works with junior high and high school youth, as well as teachers to discuss the components of healthy dating relationships. Ranging from communication skills to attraction and values, Schmidt helps youth understand the importance of having healthy dating relationships.

Volunteer Development – Schmidt works with county staff and volunteers to provide training, information and resources to support the 4-H Youth Development programming in the counties she serves. Training topics include: Creating a Welcoming and Inclusive Environment; Making Meetings Fun; Working with Disruptive Youth; Engaging Parents and Older Youth as Project and Jr. Leaders; and Essential Elements of Effective Youth Development programs.
