Stanley "Jay" Solomon provides leadership in environmental and energy programs in northwest Illinois for landowners, homeowners and residents. His areas of focus include: energy conservation, development of alternative energy sources, and enhancement and protection of natural resources.

Solomon graduated from Oklahoma State University with a bachelor's degree and master's degree in agricultural engineering. While at OSU, he was an active member of the student branch of American Society of Agricultural Engineers, including serving as the vice-chair.

Solomon joined U of I Extension as an engineering technology educator based at the East Peoria Center. For the 12 years in this position, he provided leadership to diverse local and state programs including home energy efficiency and indoor air quality, agricultural drainage, GPS/GIS applications and technology adoption, managed grazing, as-applied manure mapping, and equine facility design and management. Most recently, Solomon provided leadership to engineering aspects of wind energy development and biomass energy program efforts. Prior to joining U of I, he spent six years as a University of Missouri Extension Agricultural Engineering Specialist serving South Central Missouri.

Among his accomplishments, Solomon holds a professional engineering license in agricultural engineering. His awards and recognition include a University of Illinois Extension Award of Excellence, individual category; two U of I Extension Award of Excellence, team category awards, Achievement Award from the National Association of County Agricultural Agents (NACAA), and regional winner in the Fact Sheet and Publication categories sponsored by NACAA.

Solomon's professional affiliations include American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers (ASABE) and National Association of County Agricultural Agents. Within ASABE, he is the current Central Illinois Section chair and has held numerous chairmanships of technical committees within the ASABE Structures and Environment division.
