Brenda Derrick earned a bachelor of science degree in food and nutrition from Northeast Missouri State University (now known as Truman State University), and holds a master of science degree in human nutrition, foods and food systems management from the University of Missouri-Columbia.
A registered dietitian, her professional background includes 12 years in the public health field, including nutrition education, health promotion and wellness, data management, maternal and child health, lead-poisoning prevention, and health behavior research.
Derrick has been with Extension since 1999 and is the current president of the Illinois Extension Association of Family and Consumer Sciences (IEAFCS) and serves on the board of the Joint Council of Extension Professionals (JCEP). Derrick is also a member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, and the Society of Nutrition Education. She received a University of Illinois Extension Individual Award of Excellence in 2002 and a Team Award of Excellence in 2004 and 2008.
