Tony Franklin is primarily responsible for leadership in program development and delivery; personnel management; fiscal management; marketing and public relations; and program evaluation. He is a certified diversity facilitator; certified facilitator for the Franklin Covey 7 Habits of Highly Effective People Signatory Program, and qualified administrator for the Intercultural Development Inventory (IDI).

Franklin received his master of science degree in physical education (concentration in sports administration) and bachelor of science degree in education from The University of New Mexico. He received an associate in science degree in social work technology from Glenville State College located in Glenville, West Virginia.

Franklin is an experienced professional with over 20 years in supervisory and personnel leadership capacities of which 15 of those years are in higher education. Prior to joining University of Illinois Extension in 2001, Franklin worked at Knox College for five years in the capacity of Associate Dean of Students where he served as an Academic Advisor, Intercultural Life Director, Chief Conduct Officer, Leadership Development Coordinator, and New Student Orientation Coordinator.

Included among his awards and recognitions are the Outstanding African American Staff/Faculty Award; Galesburg Human Relations Award; Distinguished Leader of the Year and Rotary Club's Outstanding Vocational Community Service Leader Award and 2013 Illinois Department of Health Excellence in Community Leadership award.

Professional affiliations include Extension Partners and Illinois Association of Community Development Extension Professionals
