Cheryl Geitner provides leadership for 4-H youth
development programming in the four county area including program quality, expansion and evaluation as well as volunteer
delivery systems.
Programming
highlights include positive youth development, volunteerism, youth leadership,
youth in governance, science and engineering, character education and community
development involving youth.
Geitner holds a bachelor of science degree in home economics education from Western Illinois University and master of science
degree in educational and interdisciplinary studies from Western Illinois
University. She has previous work
experience with the Job Training Partnership Act and American Home Economics
Association, Washington DC.
Her University of Illinois
Extension work began in 1987 in Knox County (Galesburg) through June, 2010. Geitner recently was recognized with an
Individual Excellence in Extension Award for staff with more than ten years of
experience.
Leadership with many organizations in Knox County
included the Knox County Healthy Youth Alliance, Knox County Substance Abuse
Prevention Coalition Advisory Committee and Underage Alcohol Prevention Task
Force, Blue Ribbon Child Abuse Prevention Committee, Human Services Council,
Galesburg Exchange Club, and Chamber of Commerce Education Task Force. Organizations she is currently providing leadership with include the Kewanee Community Alcohol and Drug Task Force along with the Laws and Policies Committee, Cambridge School Health Council, Henry County Human Services Council and the Mercer County Human Services Council.
Geitner's
professional associations include National Association Extension 4-H Agents and
Illinois Extension Professionals for Youth Education, serving as president for
the state organization in 2009. As
president, she served on the Joint Council for Extension Professionals in
Illinois. She has received the NAE4-HA Distinguished Service Award.
