Deanna K. Roby received a M.Ed. from University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. Her studies there focused on human resource development. Roby also holds a B.S. in communications, with an emphasis on corporate and organizational communications from Northern Illinois University. She also completed a minor in business administration at NIU. Roby has been with University of Illinois Extension since 1993. She has served in a variety of counties, including: DeKalb, Kendall, DuPage, and most recently, Kane.
Roby has also been very active on the regional and state levels for Extension. She has served on the Field Staff Advisory Committee, State 4-H Advisory Committee, State Fair Junior Department Advisory Committee, Reading Project Committee, Northeast Regional Advisory Committee, statewide Affirmative Action Committee and the state 4-H Recognition of Excellence Committee. Her professional affiliations include the Illinois Extension Professionals for Youth Education, where she has served in a number of leadership roles, and the Northern Illinois Camp Association.
Deanna's youth development assignment includes providing overall program leadership and quality, involving community club programs, school enrichment, after-school groups, SPIN groups, and other youth development programs; volunteer recruitment, training, support, and recognition; collaboration with other Unit Educators to support interdisciplinary programs; and, networking with community organizations and agencies to enhance the quality of life for youth in Kane, DuPage, and Kendall Counties.
Positive Youth Development
This program helps youth development professionals understand the importance of positive development by presenting essential elements central to helping young people become competent, contributing adults. The curriculum utilized provides a wealth of resources to engage youth development professionals in building the capacity of volunteers and to perpetuate the essential elements of positive youth development in programming.

The power to accomplish these things exists in all of us - we just have to unlock it. The key is Real Colors®. Real Colors® is simple to use, and can easily be incorporated into all aspects of your personal and professional life. Through Real Colors®, you'll gain a completely new perspective on yourself and the things that are most important to you. As you learn more about the Colors, you'll instinctively recognize characteristics of people you know, and their Color. This knowledge gives you valuable insight into what is most important to them, why they may react to situations differently than others, how you can best communicate with them and much more. Using Real Colors®, people learn to recognize, accept and value the differences in others while improving understanding, empathy and communication.
A variety of volunteer training programs are available. Topics can be selected based upon completion of the leadership development inventory for organizational, project, and Cloverbud volunteers. The inventories help volunteers identify the skills they need to be successful in their role. Topics range from volunteer management to club program management, from family involvement to making meetings fun, from involving youth to behavior management, from project learning to communications to understanding youth. Workshops range from 45 minutes to 90 minutes. Sessions are also available and relevant for other youth development professionals.
