Alocasia

Commonly known as elephant ear, these plants come in all
sizes, shapes and leaf color variations. They like warm,
humid conditions in partial shade and soil with plenty of
moisture, and good drainage. Valued for their leaves, they
can be green, yellow, bronze, blue-green and variegated.
Some species produce leaves up to 3 feet long on plants 8-10
feet tall. Extremely dramatic and tropical. They are heavy
feeders so fertilize every two weeks. Overwinter the plant
by digging up the tuber in the fall and storing in a cool,
dry place until spring. Stored tubers carried over for several
years produce plants of extraordinary size.
